7. Ladder Braid
The ladder braid is a more intricate style that looks like rungs on a ladder. It involves pulling loops through a main braid. It’s a bit more complex but looks amazing.
This braid is definitely for special occasions. It looks so detailed and beautiful.
You can add small flowers or jewels to the loops for extra sparkle.
6. Pull-Through Braid
A pull-through braid gives the look of a braid but isn’t a traditional one. It uses elastics to create sections that are pulled through each other. It creates a very full, voluminous braid.
It’s a great trick for getting a thick braid even with finer hair. It’s easier than it looks!
Gently tug on the edges of the loops to make it look fuller.
5. Rope Braid
A rope braid is one of the simplest braids to do. It’s made by twisting two sections of hair around each other. It creates a smooth, twisted look.
It’s perfect for when you’re short on time but want a neat style. I use this one a lot for half-up styles.
Twist the sections tightly before wrapping them around each other to keep it from unraveling.

Micro braids are very small, fine braids. They take a long time to install but can last for several months with proper care. They offer incredible versatility for styling.
Because they are so small, they blend well with your natural hair. You can wear them up, down, curled, or straight.
Be mindful of the weight, especially when they’re first installed.
3. Tree Braids
Tree braids are a protective style where the braid is only at the root, and the rest of the hair is left loose. This gives the look of loose hair but with a braided base. They offer a lot of styling flexibility.
I love that you get the protective benefits of braids but the look of free-flowing hair. They can look very natural.
Choose braiding hair that closely matches your natural hair texture for a seamless blend.
2. Yarn Braids
Yarn braids use yarn instead of traditional braiding hair. This gives them a unique texture and matte finish. They are very durable and come in endless color options.
You can get really creative with colors using yarn braids! They are surprisingly lightweight.
To wash them, focus on cleaning the scalp and let the water run through the yarn.

Knotless box braids are my absolute top choice! Unlike traditional box braids, they start with your natural hair and gradually add braiding hair. This means no knot at the root.
They are much more comfortable and put less tension on your scalp. They also look more natural from the start. They can last just as long as regular box braids.
For maintenance and longevity, wear a satin bonnet at night, moisturize your scalp regularly with a light oil, and use a braid spray to keep the lengths fresh. Avoid excessive pulling and styling that puts strain on the roots.
